art Old Bridge in Clifden connects the town lands with the farms to the south of the town. The road wanders around to a little coastal road that eventually connects to Roundstone. It is a curious bridge of an indeterminate age and perhaps is a bit younger than it looks. Actually, I think it rather has classical looks in the ways it spans the river. There are a lot of sites in Ireland that beg the twin questions of: When? and Why?

Old Bridge in Clifden

Who built this bridge - when and why,
If someone knows please tell me and why so high
Was it then a more dangerous stream
Was this built of plans by fairies in a dream
It connects both the farm and city
To have its builders unknown is quite the pity
