Three Maidens in the Wood was written to capture the moment
when recently I saw three maidens in the dry rocky creek bed of
Arroyo Holon in Larkspur. What they were doing is anybody’s guess,
October 2001.

Three Maidens in the Wood

I came across three maidens in the wood
I stopped and looked to understand if I could
I couldn’t say what they were doing there
They had red ribbons cascading from their golden hair
And wore long dresses with long sleeves of muted black
I hurried on then, and did not look back
