| This is a little painting of Maureen O'Hara's Boat in Glengariff Bay. At least that is what the guide told us as he ferried us to the Garnish Island. Glengarriff, the gateway to the Beara Peninsula from the south side has some of the most exquisite natural scenery in Ireland. Plants from virtually every part of the world grow here due to the mild currents of the Gulf Stream. The Italian Gardens of Garnish Island, otherwise known as 'Paradise Garden’, are wonderful. Numerous boat ferries are always on hand to carry you the short distance from the mainland to the island. We were staying in Adrigole, which commences shortly after leaving Glengarriff. This area is a beautiful, scattered village rich in history and natural scenery. Looming to the north is Hungry Hill, the highest of the Caha Mountains and to the south is Bantry Bay. The Adrigole coastline is a combination of rocky cliffs and outcrops with a small Harbor. That trip was full of funny coincidence such as the boatman’s sister was at the time visiting a town just a mile or two from where I live. Music: The Old Rambler |
