Friends of ours, that met us in Ireland for a two-week tour, told us we missed a great breakfast and a great place to stay by not stopping at the Old Ground. They always deplane and head for their first night in Ireland to rest and recover from the flight. The next time through the area we stopped for breakfast and they were right. We had booked the night up the road at Clifden House, an early Georgian mansion standing at the foot of a wooded hill on the shores of Lough Inchiquin near Corofin so we had to keep going. The Old GroundIn Ennis there is a special hotel to be found Named affectionately the Old Ground It is a place that caters to the tourist Yet authentic enough to appeal to the purist We stopped one morning for the “full Irish” with coffee We waddled away feeling satisfied and heavy Someday we should spend the night From our brief exploration, it should more than alright
