We took a train through the English Countryside on our way from London to Hollyhead and then again from Fishguard back to London. I remember taking a course in college that talked about the Nature movement in Europe. I had to do with man's relationship to nature and how man should shape nature for the betterment of man. Perhaps I have misstated this and if so I am sorry, but as I remember it man was going to change nature to provide for the needs of mankind. During this train ride I thought the fields and villages were perfectly laid out, not a grass blade out of order. My thinking was that here was an example of what that course was about. These concepts today seem contrary to the idea of wilderness, wetland restoration and the idea of buying up large tracts of land and leaving it entirely in a natural state. |
English Countryside It is a beautiful day for a ride In the English countryside Very little of raw nature had endured As all the fields were manicured All the plants and animals were neatly sorted Cows here, sheep there while horses merrily cavorted |
